BUFR ("Binary Universal Form for Representation of data") is a binary TDCF (table-driven code form) defined by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to represent meteorological data, and it was approved for operational use in 1988.

BUFR is a self-descriptive code, and its main advantages are its flexibility and its expandability. In addition, BUFR offers a high information / file size ratio, something very valuable both for the transmission and the storage of data.

BUFR edition 4 is operational from 2 Nov 2005. BUFR editions 3 and 4 are operational in parallel up to 2012.

If you are not familiar with BUFR, you can visit our demystifying introduction. We hope to be able to show you that BUFR is easy!
