Cipher - C++ BUFR encoding / decoding Software

Cipher is a series of modern and user-friendly software tools to handle WMO codes BUFR and CREX. The heart of Cipher products are C++ class libraries: Cipher SoftBUFR and Cipher T-CREX, and their design and implementation are Object-Oriented. More about Cipher.

Cipher software can handle generic BUFR messages (both editions 3 and 4) and is not restricted to any particular message templates.

BUFR tables version 14

WMO BUFR tables version 14 are operational from November 2009. You can follow the links below for tables in HTML format. For CREX tables version 6, see the CREX area in this page.

Free BUFR software

BUFRtool is a free program to decode / encode BUFR messages, based on Cipher SoftBUFR library. CREXtool is a similar utility for CREX messages, based on Cipher T-CREX library.

  • BUFRtool 4.2.1 (Apr 2010), able to handle BUFR editions 3 and 4 (versions for Linux and Microsoft).
  • CREXtool 4.2.1 (Apr 2010), able to handle CREX editions 1 and 2 (version for Linux).
